Looking for something interesting to do in the Orlando area? Do you enjoy film and good food? Enzian theater will provide an elevated film experience: a great option for a date, a fun night out with the family, or an evening spent on your own.

Located in Maitland, Enzian describes itself as an “alternative cinema offering independent, foreign, and classic films.” This full-time, single-screen cinema cafe screens not only first-run independent features, but also creative series and special events. This is a non-profit with a mission to “entertain, inspire, educate, and connect the community through film.” There is nothing else like this in Central Florida!

Food

This is more than just a theater. The venue includes Eden Bar, an open-air restaurant and bar open for lunch and dinner, with a late-night menu for moviegoers. The food here is nothing like your typical movie theater popcorn and hot dogs! Eden Bar offers a menu full of delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts, with plenty of options for all appetites and diets. The bar will have your classic beers, wines, and cocktails, plus a host of classic cocktails with creative names like “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and “Cucumber Pulp Fiction.”

The ambience of the restaurant is warm, classy, and laid back. You’ll find a patio with a central bar surrounded by tall green plants and twinkle lights, creating an atmosphere that transports you from busy Orlando to a one-of-a-kind cultural experience.

You may choose to visit Eden Bar on its own or come early to eat before a showing, but you may also eat while you watch. The theater itself has comfortable seats surrounding tables, and servers will bring you menus so that you can order before and during the film.

Film

Enzian screens first-run independent features and hosts a variety of film series: Cult Classics every other Tuesday, monthly Music Mondays, a Peanut Butter Matinee Family Film on Sunday afternoons, and Popcorn Flicks in the Park (a free, open to the public, classic family film) shown in Winter Park’s Central Park held on the second Thursday of each month. And these are just a few!

Community

Enzian’s commitment to community is manifested in their involvement with schools and families. Enzian has partnered with Winter Park Public Library to host an annual Teen Film Festival. Students from any school in the area (including home-schooled students) in grades 8-12 are welcome to enter a short film, then families and friends come together for a screening of their teens’ work. This is a free event and open to the public, as community comes together to support its youth.
