Wonderworks is that neck-sprain, take-a-second-look-as-you-whiz-by, upside-down—yes, UPSIDE-DOWN—building on IDrive just up from Sea World.

When you’re within earshot of Wonderworks, you hear it creaking and groaning. It’s a mastery of architecture and illusion, for sure. And there’s a ton of stuff to do inside, including lots of individual stations/hands-on activities, a 4D 4X motion theater, 3-story ropes course, laser-tag venue, evening dinner and magic show, and, of course, a café with pizza and other eats.

The WonderZones comprise Natural Disasters, Physical Challenge, Light & Sound, Space Discovery, Imagination Lab, and Far Out Art Gallery. These are arranged over several floors in the building.

In Physical Challenge, you can create a 3-D image of your body by pressing in to a pin wall of 40,000 plastic pins, create bubbles the size of basketballs, sit on a chair and pull yourself up with pulleys, and throw your best pitch to see the velocity of your throw.

In Light & Sound, test your reflexes, freeze-shoot your shadow, and play piano on a giant keyboard.

In Space Discovery, explore a life-size replica of a space suit, climb into a space capsule replica, explore the surface of Mars in a rover, land the Space Shuttle, and experience space effects in a 2-person gyroscope.

The Natural Disasters area invites you to become a human lightning rod, ride the earthquake simulator, experience Category 1 winds in the Hurricane Shack, find your home or school on a giant Google Earth screen, and see how long you can keep your hand in 28 degree F water.

Wonderworks’ glow-in-the-dark Indoor Ropes Course takes participants up to 36 feet high with swinging walkways, suspension bridges, beams, lily pads, and more. (You’re in a harness and must wear closed-toe shoes for this activity.)

4D XD Motion Theater Experience combines a 3D movie with special effects and seats that move. See Wonderworks’ website for a list of the movies being shown.

The Laser Tag venue gives you a chance to run around and outshoot other players. After Laser Tag, try your hand in the video arcade area.

Finally, the Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show happens daily at 6 p.m. It includes dinner of cheese, salad, beer, wine, soda, and dessert and a great magic show by magician Tony Brent.
